Hair that still
behaves six weeks
after you leave.

Maple Vale is a four-chair salon. Every appointment starts dry, in daylight, with a conversation about how you actually wear your hair — then we cut and colour to that, not to a reference photo.

  • Four chairs

Cut & finish
The salon

A small room, four chairs, and no rushing the first twenty minutes.

We keep the diary deliberately light. A cut is booked for an hour so there is room to look at your hair dry, talk about how much time you want to spend on it at home, and agree a shape before anything is washed.

Colour is planned in stages rather than promised in one sitting. If getting from where your hair is now to where you want it will take two or three visits, we will say so at the consultation, give you the timeline and the cost of each stage, and let you decide.

Bring the products you already use. Half of a good finish is knowing what you have at home and how you dry it.

Every chair works with ammonia-free gloss as standard, and we hold a stock of fine-hair and curl-specific lines rather than a single range. If a treatment will not meaningfully help your hair, we will tell you to skip it.

Prices are a starting point set by length, density and how much time the work takes. You will have an exact figure in writing at the consultation, before anything begins.

Your first visit

Three things to know before you come in

Step one

Come with your hair as you wear it

Unwashed and unstyled is genuinely more useful than freshly blow-dried. We need to see how your hair falls, where it kinks and what your parting does on an ordinary day.

Step two

Patch test 48 hours ahead for colour

Any tint, gloss or lightening service needs a skin test at least two days before. It takes five minutes at the desk, and we will arrange it when you request your appointment.

Step three

Allow more time than you think

Lightening on dark or previously coloured hair often runs three to four hours. We will confirm the realistic window in writing, so you are not watching the clock mid-service.

Who to book with

Four chairs, different strengths

Ask for a stylist by name or let us match you — tell us what your hair does and we will put you with the right chair.

Rowan Ellis

Colour & correction

Takes the long colour jobs: box-dye removal, banded regrowth, and grey blending that does not leave a hard line. Books consultations for correction work separately.

Nadia Osei

Curls & texture

Cuts curly and coily hair dry, section by section, and will happily spend the appointment teaching you how to refresh it on day three rather than selling you a product.

Theo Marchetti

Precision cutting

Bobs, soft fringes and short crops that keep their shape as they grow. Good chair to sit in if you want low-maintenance structure rather than a new colour.

Questions

Asked at the desk most weeks

Why do I need a patch test if I have coloured my hair for years?

Sensitivity can develop at any point, including to a product you have used before, and it can appear suddenly. We test 48 hours ahead of every tint, gloss and lightening service, and we repeat it if more than six months have passed since your last colour with us.

Can you cover grey completely, or only blend it?

Both, and they are different commitments. Full coverage gives an even tone but needs a root tint roughly every four to five weeks. Blending uses lighter pieces and a gloss so the grey reads as dimension — softer to live with, and comfortable at eight to ten week intervals. We will show you what each looks like on your own regrowth pattern.

Should I bring a photo?

Yes, and bring two or three — including one you do not like. Photos tell us about tone and finish far better than words do. We will be honest about how close your hair can get in one visit, since the starting colour and condition set the limit.

I used a box dye and now want to go lighter. Is that a problem?

Not a problem, but it does change the plan. Box colour builds up unevenly through the ends, so lifting it usually takes staged sessions with care work in between rather than one appointment. Book a correction consultation first — it includes a strand test, and you leave with a written timeline and cost per stage.

Do you cut children's hair?

We do, up to age twelve at £24, booked into the first appointment of the day when the room is quietest and the dryers are off. For a first-ever haircut, tell us in the request and we will allow extra time and keep the chair unhurried.

Is the fringe trim between appointments really free?

Yes, for anyone we have cut within the last ten weeks. Fringes grow out of shape long before the rest of the cut does, so it is simpler to tidy them than to let the whole shape drift. Send a request and we will slot you in.

What happens if I do not like the result?

Tell us before you leave if you can, and in the chair if you notice it mid-service — small adjustments are quick while you are still with us. If something only becomes obvious once you have dried it yourself at home, contact us within a week and we will book time to put it right.
